Induction / Transition

From Pre-School

We have a very close relationship with Offord Day Nursery, which is located in a building within the grounds of the Primary School so almost all the children starting in reception will be very familiar with the school already.

There is a robust transition process, which is discussed with parents in the summer term ahead of school entry in September. All children joining the school in Reception are invited to taster sessions in the Reception classroom so that they meet the staff who will be caring for them. Home visits are also offered so that children can meet staff in a familiar environment. Teachers visit the child's pre-school if applicable to see children in an Early Years learning environment. The school encourages parents and other professionals to share information about each child's needs and interests.

To Secondary School

Offord Primary School is a feeder school for Hinchingbrooke School in Huntingdon. Hinchingbrooke offers a comprehensive transition programme to assist Year 6 students with the move to secondary school.

Applications for secondary schools need to be made by 31st October when the child is in Year 6.

Details of how to apply, transitions sessions and contact information can be found on the Hinchingbrooke School webite here

Families can get advice and support when applying for schools, either when the Admissions Portals open for transitions or for in-year applications through the Parents' School Preference Adviser for Cambridgeshire, part of the SENDIASS team. They are able to advise how the transfer and admissions process works, as well as supporting the understanding of policies and criteria for different schools and can support in the appeals process and issues concerning transport. They can be contacted by email: Choosingaschool@cambridgeshire.gov.uk
