Key Stage 2

Key stage 2 is taught as two classes, Hawks (Year 3/4) and Kingfishers (Year 5/6). Across the two classes we aim to cover a wide variety of subjects from the curriculum, building on the knowledge gained in previous years. Most days consist of Maths and English in the morning with other curriculum areas being covered in the afternoon sessions. All children do two sessions of P.E a week including swimming one half term a year. Children are supported to achieve by a range of adults who adapt the curriculum to match the children’s learning needs. The children are also supported with intervention sessions using the Fresh Start programme which extends the knowledge gained in the KS1 Read Write Inc and Rapid maths which helps to build the children’s maths fluency ensuring they have the necessary skills in order to access the KS2 curriculum.

The children also have the opportunity to take part in extra curriculum music lessons in drums, piano, guitar and singing. As well as music lessons, the children take part in performing a play every year in KS2.

During their time in KS2, the children will have the opportunity to go on two residential visits. In Year 3/4 the children attend Burwell House for 2 nights and in Year 5/6 the children adventure to Kingswood for 4 nights. These experiences are vital for children’s development personally and socially.

The curriculum is enriched by events that reflect the world around us. These have included themed days for Anti-Bullying Awareness week, World Book Days and celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. The children are encouraged to think of how Offord Primary School fits into the local community and raise money or collect food for charities such as Children in Need or Godmanchester Food Bank.   It is important to us that the children of Offord Primary School have an balanced education that reflects the here and now and the society we live in.
