Offord Marathon Relay
28th June 2021
We have now have raised almost £5000 towards new playground equipment and to help Love to Move Cambridgeshire & Bedfordshire after our first marathon relay on Saturday.
Sixty-six of the pupils, plus several older and younger siblings as well as parents, joined headteacher Kate Ruddock and her running buddy Claire Few as they completed 26 separate miles with a different group of children joining each time.
Everybody then got together to run the final 0.2 miles around the school playing field.
Jane Thomas, from Love to Move, also joined in as more than 400 miles were completed in total.
Ms Ruddock, who estimated she ran for 5 and a half hours, said: “The atmosphere at school was brilliant, with everyone cheering each mile off and cheering the runner back on to school, and all this while socially distancing too.
“Claire, Jane and Dave (Jane's husband) absolutely loved running with the children.
“They all said how lovely the children were, how chatty they were, how polite they were, and they just loved how the older children were looking out for the younger ones.
“They all said to me what a wonderful place Offord Primary School is - how supportive and lovely the parents were too. We really do have a special school.”
All the participants were given a medal which was designed by Year 3 pupil Thomas, who won a competition to create them.
There is still time to help towards our £20,000 target by donating online at www.virginmoneygiving/fund/offordmarathon
